Toy Soldiers Airborne drop overhead…@ work?
April 30, 2009 – 5:32 pmWell first hello to everyone and thanks for checking out DefenceIQ.com. I am Sean Pillai the publisher for the site and on some weekends/weeks/months; I also work as an Officer in the Infantry in the National Guard. Similar to the Territorial Army the National Guard works on homeland security issues in our state and when needed deploy to far off lands to do God’s business.
I guess I called my first entry toy soldiers over my head because in leaving for a week of training, I came back to an elaborately decorated desk in military garb including, some parachuting GI Joe soldiers overhead.
I had spent the week in the field doing Infantry Squad Battle Drills with my platoon. We ran countless practice runs through a brand new live fire range and I have to be proud of my squads as they were by far the best in our Battalion. Our actions on contact and time on target were by far the fastest of any of the others that I witnessed and that is solely due to my excellent sergeants.
The quality of the American soldier nowadays is something that those outside the military can’t appreciate. I have soldiers who have deployed multiple times and those with multiple college degrees. For so many, their time spent away from their families and jobs only makes the service worth that much more to protect what we have. The families are the ones who truly give, the wives, children and girlfriends of the Infantry sacrifice more than anyone knows and for that I appreciate all of their lonely nights and tiring days.
So as my first blog entry I wanted to thank everyone who supports us and to thank my co-workers…as they and others also sacrifice in our absences from the office. It was heart warming to return from a long trip to my once plain desk now elaborately covered in digitally printed cammo fabric, small soldiers, fake plant leaves ornately decorating every inch and of course an American flag.
