Does someone have a case of the Mondays?

March 9, 2009 – 4:03 pm

Yes. Yes, I do.

I had a great weekend–hung out with a few friends, participated in some early St. Patrick’s Day festivities, went out to dinner, saw The Watchmen (which I didn’t really care for. It’s not that I don’t like comic book movies. You all know how much I enjoyed Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight. But this one was…well, it was too long to have drank a large Diet Coke during the previews, I’ll tell you that)…

Anyway, it’s tough getting back to work, especially with Daylight Savings Time and all.

Nope, Mondays are still intolerable. And now I have to go to the bathroom...
Nope, Mondays are still intolerable. And now I have to go to the bathroom…

But, I came in. Because I’m responsible. And because Baby’s gotta get paid.

We all occasionally get a case of the Mondays (which comes from the movie Office Space, where everyone asked the grumpy Ron Livingston if he had a case of the Mondays). Actually sometimes we get cases of the Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays as well. (Not Fridays though. Friday is what the work week is about.) But what can you do about it?

I’ve mentioned what to do to increase workplace productivity. But on Mondays it’s even hard to bring yourself to prank your coworkers.

But don’t throw your computer (or your coworker) out the window yet. There are some good things about Mondays. Like…um…you’re one day closer to the weekend. One day richer. One day closer to retirement.

Hmm. Well, there you go. I smiled, despite myself. Mondays aren’t so bad, because soon I’ll be on the beach in Florida (wearing a light sweater, of course), getting ready for dinner (because it’s after 3 and almost time for the Early Bird).

So how does everyone deal with their cases of the Mondays?
