Don’t discuss this at work!

February 17, 2009 – 11:38 am

Hey, everyone! Have a good Valentine’s Day/Presidents’ Day/day off from work?

I know I did. I had a romantic night with my boyfriend, which included wine and a would-be-too-expensive-but-it’s-OK-because-it’s-a-Hallmark-holiday dinner and chocolates, which took me off my diet (but again was OK because of the aforementioned holiday). The rest of the weekend seemed to pass in a blur or sleeping late, napping and dozing off, mixed in with bolting out of bed at 9:07 on Monday morning and rushing to the shower before realizing that I wasn’t late for work because it was a day off. Then some more napping. Seems par for the course with what I do on my vacation days

TMI? What?

OK, yes, apparently Gen Y has a tendency to share too much with their coworkers. According to an article on cnn.com, there are certain things we should all just keep to ourselves at work.

I’ve talked about how I wish people would be more tight lipped when it comes to discussing salaries at work. But pay discrepancies are not the only no-nos.

I personally don’t mind hearing about my coworkers’ boyfriend/wife/mistress drama. It makes me feel more centered about my life. Gen Y, what with our Facebook and our group mentality and helicopter parents, is pretty used to all those personal discussions. But that doesn’t mean it’s appropriate. (Although it is kind of entertaining, admit it!)

So what would you rather not hear about at work? Do you think it’s just Gen Y, or do you Gen Xers and Baby Boomers participate in the gossip-fests as well? Let me know! (You know you want to share!)
